Conformation Handling -6:30 PM Wednesdays May / June 2024

Conformation Handling – Taught by professional handler Becky Leuth

Classes will run for 6 weeks, 1 hour class each week.

This class is for those people who are interested in showing their own dogs in the conformation ring or are getting their dogs ready to be shown. Becky will teach you how to get the very best out of your dog.

Skills Taught:

  • How to correctly stack your dog
  • Showing bite
  • Moving to your dog’s best advantage
  • Free stacking
  • Tip and Tricks to get the most out of your dog

Prerequisites: 

  • None

What to bring:

  • LOTS of small, yummy treats.
  • Show collar and leash
  • Your desire to have FUN with your pup as you both learn!!!

Adv. Obedience – Open and Utility -12 noon Wednesdays May / June 2024

Advanced Obedience – Open and Utility – Taught by AKC Judge Karen Wrey

Classes will run for 6 weeks, 1 hour class each week.

This class is for those people who are getting ready to compete in Open or Utility Obedience

Prerequisites: 

  • Dogs must have received their Novice Obedience title or have permission of instructor
  • Dogs should be heeling off leash

What to bring:

  • LOTS of small, yummy treats.
  • 6′ leash 
  • Dumbbell and/or scent articles
  • Your desire to have FUN with your pup as you both learn!!!

Basic Obedience / CGC Prep -11:30 AM Saturdays May / June 2024

Beginner Basic Obedience for Puppies & Older dog with AKC STAR Puppy offered

  • For puppies, older dogs and their owners who need basic obedience training.
  • 6 – 60 minutes classes.
  • Please bring vet records of shots to first class or Email them to carolinadogsports@gmail.com.
  • Bring Treats, leash and collar and your desire to have FUN with your pup as you both learn!!!

Skills: socialization with people and working around other dogs, sit, down, stay, come, & loose leash walking.  

Discussion topics: crate training, dog sport training, overcoming annoying behaviors, socialization and positive behavior!

Evaluation & Orientation- Saturday, April 27, 2024 11:00-12:00

Agility class Readiness Evaluation prep:
•Arrive 5-10 min before the scheduled start time.
•Check-in at the front desk.
•Keep your dog close to you on a short leash; don’t allow him to approach other dogs.
•There will typically be 4-6 dogs in your readiness evaluation.
•Bring the right stuff:
  • At least 20 plus small and very yummy treats.
  • Your dog wearing a plain collar and/or harness.
  • 4’- 6’ leash made of leather, rope or nylon.  Please do not bring a retractable leash or a chain leash.

In Scent / Nose Work 2 , expands with what the dogs learned in the previous class.  This class expands the search for a specific odor or odors in various locations, increasing the challenges and adding new search skills as the dog progresses. Once target odors are introduced to the dog, he will search for the odor only and find its source, the get rewarded by his handler with his favorite food or toy reward.

Agility Skills & Drills – 6:30 PM Tuesdays March / April 2024

This Agility class emphasizes continuation of Advanced Agility Skills and Drills. Advanced dogs and handlers will improve and practice the skills needed to compete by concentrating on course sequencing and proofing skills.

Scent Work 1 -6:30 PM Mondays March/April 2024

In Nose / Scent Work, dogs learn how to search for a specific odor or odors.
