Dog Sport Intro – 7:30 PM Wednesday Nov/Dec 2024

Dog Sport Prep

This class will get your dog started off right in a safe (all dog in class must be vaccinated) supportive and fun environment as we explore how to develop needed skills for agility and other dog sports. The first step in any dog sport is building a relationship with your dog and the fun will follow.

Classes will run for 6 weeks, 60 minutes each class.

Prerequisites:

  • This class is for dogs 7 months + (by start of class)
  • All dogs must be up to date on vaccinations. Please bring vet records of shots to first class or Email them to carolinadogsports@gmail.com.

What to bring:

  • LOTS of very small tasty treats and a bag or pouch that allows you easy access to them.
  • A 6′ leash (with no poop bag containers on the end)
  • Flat buckle collar or martingale collar (preferred)
  • Your desire to have FUN with your pup as you both learn!!!

Skills: socialization, sit, down, start line stays, consistent come, age appropriate equipment practice & tricks to encourage your dog to think.  

Discussion topics: crate training, sports, socialization and positive behavior!

TRICK DOG -11:45 AM Saturdays Nov / Dec 2024

  • For puppies, older dogs and their owners who would love to learn some tricks.
  • 3 – 60 minutes classes.

Agility- 3:00 PM Tuesdays Nov/Dec 2024

This Agility class emphasizes continuation of fundamentals, skills and drills in preparation for competition. Your communication with your dog, in their language, is key to achieving in Agility. Contacts and Weaves are expanded in this class as well as continuing with send basics for Agility. It is a great bonding experience, as well as prep if competition is what you are interested in pursuing with your four footed partner.

Scent Work 1 -6:45 PM Mondays Nov/Dec 2024

In Nose / Scent Work, dogs learn how to search for a specific odor or odors. Dogs start by searching for their favorite food or toy reward hidden in a variety or environments, increasing the challenges and adding new search skills as the dog progresses. Once target odors are introduced to the dog, he will search for the odor only and find its source, the get rewarded by his handler with his favorite food or toy reward.

Barn Hunt Run Thru & Mock Trial-Sat, Oct 12, 2024 1:30- 3:30

In preparation for BARN HUNT TRIALS ARE HAPPENING October and November  at Teamworks.  This is a fun relatively new dog sport where straw bales are set up in a course. Hidden in the straw bales are canisters similar to what you’d use at a drive-through bank. One or more of the canisters contain a live rat! It’s your dog’s job to sniff out that rat and tell you where it is. Dogs and their handlers work as a team to locate and mark rats (which are always safely held in aerated tubes) hidden in a maze of straw or hay bales.
Run through a mock trial for the first two levels – Instinct and Novice
  • If you have never done Barn Hunt see out Intro seminar for learning how its done.
  • Arrive 5-10 min before the scheduled start time.
  • Check-in
  • Crating is available otherwise, you must keep your dog close to you on a short leash; don’t allow him to approach other dogs.
  • You are welcome to try as many run throughs with the cost of $5.00 per run.
  • Bring the right stuff:
    • At least 20 plus small and very yummy treats for a party after you dog finds the rat.
    • Your dog wearing an easily removable collar and leash.
    • Please do not bring a retractable leash or a chain leash.

CGC / Therapy Dog Prep – 6:45 PM Mondays Sept – Oct

CGC and Therapy Dog prep

This class is for dogs that already have basic obedience skills. The class will introduce you to skills and situations that would be encountered in a therapy dog situation. While we do not offer therapy dog certification, this class should help to prepare you for the certification of your choice or simply offer you and your dog better socialization skills

  • For dogs that already have basic obedience skills
  • 6 – 60 minutes classes.
  • Learn to approach strangers who may be sitting, standing or lying down.
  • Introduction to medical equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, crutches, etc. 
  • Bring Treats, leash and collar and your desire to have FUN with your pup as you both learn!!!

Skills: socialization with people and working around other dogs in situations that may be encountered in a therapy environment.  

Discussion topics: Approaching strangers, protecting your dog at all times, strange situations that may occur.

Puppy Smart Start / AKC Star Puppy

Socialization during early puppyhood is absolutely essential for the development of a confident, balanced, and well-mannered adult dog. Get your puppy started off right in a safe (all puppies in class must be vaccinated) supportive and fun environment.

Classes will run for 6 weeks, 60 minutes each class.

At the end of each session the AKC Star Puppy medals will be offered for those puppies that qualify

Prerequisites:

  • This class is for puppies 8 weeks – 6 months (by start of class)
  • All puppies must be up to date on vaccinations. Please bring vet records of shots to first class or Email them to carolinadogsports@gmail.com.

What to bring:
