Deciding to focus on Basketball rather than Softball at the collegiate level, Becca accepted an athletic scholarship and used it to earn a BS in Biology. Fifteen years in Veterinary Medicine followed as an Emergency Room Technician in Savannah, GA and with a Veterinary Dermatology and Ear Specialty Clinic in Charleston, SC. While in Savannah, Becca frequently provided private consultations on Dog Behavior and Training and was first introduced to the Sport of Dog Agility; it has been taking over her life ever since.
Becca is currently Co-owner and Head Trainer of Scoot Dog Agility located near Charleston, SC on Johns Island. In the summer of 2017, she made the decision to become a full time Agility Instructor, and has been booked virtually every weekend since! Having personally trained and handled such varying types of breeds as a Beauceron, a Jack Russell Terrier, a Lab, a Border Staffy as well as several Aussies and BCs, Becca is rarely faced with a breed type with which she is not familiar. Teaching seminars up and down the East Coast, plus weekly Agility Classes and Private Lessons consisting of virtually every athletic (and some not so athletic) canine breed has made Becca particularly adept at helping just about any prospective Agility Dog.
In 2015 Becca discovered and began following the OneMind Dog method of Agility Training. This system is based on Dogs’ natural behaviors and strives to increase the mutual understanding between handler and Dog to make training more enjoyable for both. She was selected as an OneMind Dog Assistant Coach in 2016. Frequently attending Training Workshops and Seminars featuring such leaders in the Sport as OneMind Dog’s Timo and Tuulia Liuuto, Mary Ellen Barry, Karen Holik, Jessica Ajoux and Soshana Dos, Becca is always working to improve the skills and knowledge that she so proficiently passes on to those who train with her. During February 2018 Becca had the opportunity to spend most of the month in Kaarina, Finland working with Janita Leinonen and Jaakko Suoknuuti, the developers of the OneMind Dogs methodology.
Becca has helped many of her Dogs to Agility titles including her Beauceron and Jack Russell Terrier, a couple of Aussies and a Lab. Additionally, she has earned the USDAA Agility Dog Championship (ADCH) title with her Border Staffy, Snatchy, and her BCs Spanky and Score. She is currently training her two newest teammates: BC’s Skeeter and Sixx. Becca and her Dogs have appeared in the finals and on the podiums of USDAA’s Cynosport National Championship as well as UKI’s US OPEN. As a result of their body of work and particularly their efforts at the 2017 UKI US Open, Becca and Score were selected as Alternate Members of the 2018 US Agility World Open Team.
